August Birchbox

It's Birchbox time again!

This month, the theme was Beauty School.  As a beauty addict, I love learning about new products, techniques and trends so I was excited to see what was in store.

The packet tucked inside my Birchbox was filled with info on various on makeup brushes, reading labels, shaving tips, speedy skin care and quick fixes.

Birchbox has also partnered with Pencils of Promise, an organization with the mission of creating access to a quality education for students in Central America.  This month, Birchbox will donate 15% of all proceeds from the Birchbox Shop.  I love that.

So let's see what was inside, shall we?

~ Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream
~ Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner
~ Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy La Fleur
~ Caldrea Hand Soap
~ Schick Hydro Silk Razor (Bonus Item)

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream
Full Size ~ $16.00

I've heard a lot of great things about this cream so I have really been wanting to try it.  The sample I received was teeny-tiny,  but it only took a small amount to moisturize my hands thoroughly.  This is great for any dry or rough areas and even for lips.  The only thing I dislike is the smell - it's a strong, mediciney menthol-eucalyptus scent.  Although it would be great to dab under my nose when I have a cold!

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner
Oscar Fish
Full Size ~ 20.00

I received the full size of this eyeliner, which is fantastic since I already have this liner in black and LOVE IT.  It smudges and blends easily to give that perfect smokey-eye look, or you can just line as you would a regular liner.  And it literally stays all day.  The color I received is a gorgeous shimmery brown shade with flecks of gold; it's so so pretty and a perfect compliment to my blue eyes!  I actually like this much more than the black one I already had!

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy La Fleur
Full Size ~ $70.00

Seriously Birchbox.  Enough with the perfume samples.  If I hadn't received the full size Stila liner I'd be a little annoyed right now.  I can go to Sephora and get 10 perfume samples for free.  Nonetheless, the scent is pretty, although a bit too sweet for me.  It's a girly, fun scent containing mandarin, wild berries, honeysuckle and jasmine.

Caldrea Hand Soap
Ginger Pomelo
Full Size ~ 10.50

Hand soap is not necessarily something I'm like, 'Woah can't wait to try that!' when I open my Birchbox, but again, since I got the Stila liner and the, albeit tiny, Yu-Be cream, I'm ok with it.  I actually really like this scent.  For those that don't know what a pomelo is (I didn't), it's a crisp, citrus fruit native to South/Southeast Asia (thank you Wikipedia).  This makes sense - the scent has warm, citrus notes to it.  I can't stop smelling my hands.  I wonder if they have a candle...

Schick Hydro Silk Razor
(Bonus Item)

Birchbox states that in addition to scouring the beauty world for great high-end finds, they keep an eye out for affordable products that will simplify our beauty routine, and included this razor as one of those finds.  Razor cartridges are expensive, so sure, I'll take a free razor and a coupon for $4.00 off a refill cartridge pack.  I like this razor.  I got a smooth shave (the 5 blades are great), but I didn't see a difference from my normal razor - which, admittedly, is also Schick, but the men's one.

And if so, what did you get in yours???

Oh and the dotted canvas?  DIY coming your way manana.

  2. I am totally with you on the perfume - I have gotten one EVERY month since March (when I joined). I wish the was a "no fragrance please" button to select on the profile! I liked the soap too but did not like the smell I got - lavender pine what was WAY more pine than lavender...Like smells like I chopped down a christmas tree with my hands pine! Oh well, here's to hoping September is better than August :)

  5. I got mostly what you got but instead of the eyeliner I got a Pixie double ended lip liner/gloss- full size. I didn't get hand soap but instead got some type of curl smoothing cream in a fairly generous sample. This was my first BB, not totally excited, but oh well. Too bad the one full size product was not the best color for me and I don't have extra curly hair that needs to be smoothed out. There's always next month.

  7. Ooh, I'd want to try the eyeliner! I'm still trying to find a good one that's actually true to its "non-smudge" alias without a huge pricetag.

    Sincerely,

  9. I'm sick of perfume as well! And thought that this one was too sweet as well.

Our boxes were so different! I'll be posting about mine soon, but I was pretty disappointed. Although I did get a great cleanser!

  13. I looove love love that Stila eyeliner...its the only kind I'll use. I didn't get one in my box this month so I am jealous! Mine was totally different but got some good stuff. I am getting sick of the perfume too because I usually hate the scents, but I liked this one. Wouldn't buy the full size because I agree it's pretty sweet.
