I am so excited to introduce you to Londontown! Londontown is a line of nail treatment products and polishes created by Natasha Dillon after noticing the negative effects that chemicals in UV polishes had on her nails. Natasha created kur, a nail treatment line with products specified to strengthen and hydrate damaged nails, as well as an enhanced nail color line, aptly named lakur.
The best part is that the entire Londontown line is vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free, and all polishes and treatments are 5-Free as well. Awesome! Plus, both kur and lakur are infused with natural healing extracts and oils, including rapeseed flower oil, evening primrose and biotin.
I was sent a few products from the kur nail treatment line, as well as two lakur nail polishes from the Fall/Winter 2013 line (Ring Me and Foglifter), and I tested the products over a period of three weeks.
Here’s what I got:
kur: Nail Hardener
kur: Protective Top Coat
kur: Restorative Nail Cream
lakur: Ring Me (shown)
kur: Nail Hardener
The Nail Hardener is a clear formula that works to replenish the strength of the nails and protect against chipping and splitting, as well as hydrate weak, brittle nails. It can be used alone or as a base coat with the lakur nail polishes.
kur: Protective Top Coat
The Protective Top Coat is chip-resistant and UV-resistant. It dries to a hard-wearing finish that seals in essential nutrients and shields the nails from environmental damage.
This luxurious cream works hard to penetrate the nail bed and replenish lost proteins. It also hydrates the nail bed to restore strength to dry, brittle nails.
lakur: Enhanced Nail Color
Londontown’s lakur line of nail lacquers was developed to adhere to the kur Nail Hardener, which creates a molecular bond that reinforces nail strength and prevents breaking, cracking and splitting. It is also formulated with ingredients that enhance healing and nail strength, and dries to a long-lasting, high shine finish.
Each product separately is amazing, but together they are the ultimate superhero of nail treatment and polish combinations. Holy cow, I am completely blown away. Although I did not have much damage or dryness to my nails prior to using this line, my nails are noticeably stronger and healthier after using it.
Each product applied smoothly and dried fairly quickly. Both the Ring Me and Foglifter polishes applied completely opaque and streakless. I could have gotten away with just one coat of polish if i wanted to, but decided on a second coat only to deepen the color.
Ring Me looks crimson in the bottle and applies as a crimson shade with one coat, deepening to a wine shade with two. You can see it on me in the photo above this “Thoughts” section.
Foglifter looks like a silvery taupe in the bottle, but on the nails applies as a strong taupe and takes on an army green / olive tone in some lighting. Shown below:
And, although the polishes apply very opaque, they are not ultra-thick. They still have enough fluidity that makes them easy to control (application-wise). I did find that Foglifter applied slightly thicker than Ring Me, but it was still very easy to work with.
The packaging is great too. The brush is the perfect size for applying polish with one center stroke and two additional strokes along the sides of each nail, and the square handle is great for grip and control over application.
I left the Ring Me polish on for two full weeks prior to removing it, and at that time I had only minor, barely noticeable wear at the top of two nails. I type on a keyboard quite a bit for work, school, and blogging (obvi), so I can see why the wear was in this area. But can we talk about this for a moment – a full two weeks of wear from a non-gel nail lacquer?! I have Foglifter on now (just applied this past weekend), and it’s wearing just as perfectly as Ring Me did thus far! Both polishes have stayed ultra-glossy as long as I’ve had them on too – none of that fade-to-matte after a few days of wear!
Since it’s a bit separate from the rest, let’s discuss the kur: Nail Restorative Cream. This nail cream is the creme de la creme of nail creams (excuse the pun). It is super rich, super luxurious, and it smells amazing. If Londontown decided to make a full body moisturizer or perfume out of this scent, I would not be sad. It’s sooooo good. The packaging is ultra-luxe as well (think Chanel), and it comes with cotton gloves to help the cream really sink in to the nail bed. I’ve been using this at night, and my cuticles are noticeably softer.
Since I want to be sure that I write a thorough review for you, complete with positives and negatives, I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with negatives. And the only negative I can come up with is the price. The polishes run for $22.00 each, and the Nail Hardener and Top Coat are $25.00 each. That’s pretty up there in terms of pricing. But, in my honest opinion, this line is worth shelling out the extra dough for. I don’t know of any other polish that makes my nails feel as strong and resists wear and stays glossy for as long as this line does.
Disclosure: I received the aforementioned products free of charge from Londontown USA, but all opinions are 100% honest and my own.
